JCP to take up SHC additional judges case on 26th

ISLAMABAD - The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will take up the Sindh High Court nine Additional Judges case for making them permanent on September 26.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali will head the meeting.

The Commission consists of Chief Justice of Supreme Court as Chairman, four senior most judges of the Supreme Court, one former Chief Justice or judge of the Supreme Court nominated by the Chairman for a period of two years.

Justice Ghulam Haider, Justice Muhammad Iqbal Mehar, Justice Khadim Hussain Sheikh, Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, Justice Abdul Ghani Soomro, Justice Mehmood Ahmed Khan, Justice Karim Khan Agha, Justice Anwar Hussain and Justice Faisal Kamal names would be considered for making them permanent judges of the Sindh High Court.

Presently, there are 37 judges in the Sindh High Court. Out of them 13 are Additional Judges. 

The tenure of nine Additional Judges would expire on October 29, 2016, while four Additional Judges term will be completed in June 2017.

The recommendations of the Judicial Commission are sent to the Parliamentary Committee.

However, last year in October the Parliamentary Committee members had decided that it will not hold any meeting to consider Judicial Commission recommendations till it has meaningful role and contributions in the process of appointment of judges in the superior courts. Since the JCP recommendations are sent to the Law Ministry for approval.
