PML-Q on verge of extinction in S Punjab

MULTAN - The recent wave of party switchovers has changed the face of politics in South Punjab region, forcing the observers to dub it as a political tsunami. Though a few leaders quit the PPP and PML-N, the largest number of turncoats came from the PML-Q. Many political heavyweights, who were highly worried about their political future because of stumbling position of their party and cold response from the two mainstream parties, did not take any time in making a decision to join PTI. It is observed that the ongoing trend of party crossovers has not affected the PPP or PML-N seriously, but it badly dented PML-Q in this part of the country, jeopardizing even the existence of this party in some areas. On the other hand, Imran Khans Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is the largest beneficiary everywhere as most of the turncoats are finding refuge under its shelter. The PTI is followed by Nawaz-League in the race of receiving party bunks. Initially, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi left his party and joined the PTI which proved to be the first drop. Since than the PTI has not looked back and a large number of political leaders from across the South Punjab region have announced to join PTI. Sources disclosed that two heavyweights from Khanewal-former speaker of national assembly Syed Fakhar Imam and Raza Hayat Haraj-have met with PTI chief Imran Khan and soon they will announce joining the party. Similarly, former federal minister from Rahim Yar Khan Jahangir Khan Tarin has also decided to aboard PTI as Imran Khan is going to make a quick tour of entire South Punjab on Tarins personal aircraft. The PTI chief will come down to Rahim Yar Khan first to meet politicians aspiring to join the party, then move to Choti Zeren to meet with former president Farooq Lagharis sons and then to Multan to hold meeting with former federal minister Malik Sikandar Hayat Bosan. Former provincial minister from Multan Moen Riaz Qureshi and Makhdoom Abbas Akbar Moni Shah will also announce joining PTI on this occasion. Similarly, the Khichis of Vehari and Kanjoos of Lodhran are also willing to join PTI. Sources disclosed that conversation was underway between the PTI leadership and Khichis and Kanjoos on the number of seats to be given to both the families in their respective areas. As soon as the seat discussion comes to any conclusion, theyll announce joining the party, sources claimed. It has been learnt that Abdul Rehman Kanjoor, former district nazim of Lodhran, has demanded both national and all four provincial assembly seats. Similarly, Khichis seek two national assembly seats from Vehari. As far as the situation in Multan is concerned, some Q-League leaders like senator Javed Ali Shah and his brother Mujahid Ali Shah have returned to Nawaz-League while former MPA Malik Mazhar Abbas Raan has held meeting with Sharif brothers. Similarly, former MPA and PPP leader Malik Ishaq Bucha has left his party and joined the PML-N. He is being seen as a potential candidate for MNA seat from Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilanis constituency NA 151. Traders bemoan compensation: The traders and affectees of Old Shujabad Road widening project staged a demonstration against the payment of less compensation than the market rate to them for their properties here on Wednesday. A large number of protesters gathered at Liaqatabad Bazaar and shouted slogans against the government. The demo was organised by Anjuman Tajiran Liaqatabad. Talking to the journalists, the protesters demanded the government to pay appropriate compensation for their properties otherwise they would be forced to start an agitation campaign. They said that they would oppose 120-foot wide road under prime minister package because the concerned departments were not paying them according to market rate. They said that they would continue their protest till acceptance of their demands.
