MULTAN - Participants of an Ailan Seraikistan Sooba Conference unanimously declared on Monday that no compromise would be made on the geographical mapping and name of the province, asking the parliament to immediately declare establishment of Seraiki Province consisting of 30 districts.
The conference was organised by Seraiki Qaumi Mahaaz (SQM) and a large number of people from entire Seraiki region participated in it. The conference was addressed by Kh Ghulam Farid Koreja and others.
On the occasion, the speakers said that no hurdle would be tolerated in the way of Seraiki province and the residents of the area would stage protests at all bridges besides blocking highways passing through this terrain. They added that the emergence of Seraiki province had become inevitable as over 40 million Seraikis were subjected to injustice by the Punjab rulers since long. They regretted that the Seraiki youth were deprived of jobs and admissions to good institutions while entire budget was spent on upper Punjab. They declared that any other names except Seraiki Province would not be accepted and strongly resisted.
They stressed upon the government to keep forth historic geographical boundaries of the Seraiki Province before making it, adding that two district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa namely Dera Ismael Khan and Tank were also part of this propose province. The speakers expressed their gratitude to mainstream political parties for supporting Seraiki Province in the national assembly. “It is the outcome of sacrifices rendered and efforts made by the intelligentsia, youth and political workers of Seraiki region that the political parties have taken notice of their genuine demand and supported it,” they claimed. Without mentioning the name of any institution, the speakers hurled a warning to some departments, asking them to refrain from creating hurdles in way of Seraiki Province.
varsity status to NMC: The Punjab government has decided to award university status to Nishtar Medical College as CM has approved the proposal and the makeshift varsity campus will be set up at Bungalow No-1 in college estate. The PMA Multan claimed that a delegation comprising principal Nishtar Dr Sami, PMA Multan president and MNA Rana Mahmoodul Hassan called on the CM and demanded him to upgrade the status of Nishtar College.
PMA sources added that the CM not only accepted the demand for making Nishtar College a university but also agreed to release funds for other health projects of Multan. It may not be out of place to mention here that the PMA and other social circles have been demanding the government for the last 10 years to upgrade Nishtar College’s status.
Meanwhile, the PMA office-bearers, Nishtar students and civil society have welcomed the news, saying they would continue their struggle till issuance of notification.
