SC seeks agencies report on Balochistan

ISLAMABAD - Rejecting the Balochistan chief secretary’s report about law and order, the Supreme Court Monday directed the advocate general to submit security agencies’ report on January 20.
The court observed that it would ask the ISI to furnish its report about law and order in Balochistan. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the petition on Balochistan unrest filed by Balochistan High Court Bar Association President Hadi Shakeel Ahmed.
Balochistan Advocate General Amanullah Kunrani submitted the report on behalf of the provincial chief secretary. The court declared it dissatisfactory and ordered authorities of key security agencies, including Intelligence Bureau (IB) and CID, to submit a report of last three months on law and order in Balochistan on January 20.
The Balochistan AG claimed that law and order had been improved in Quetta. The CJP asked how the government can prove this. “This is not only the issue of Quetta, but the matter belongs to entire the Balochistan province.
Justice Khilji Arif observed that Balochistan was Pakistan’s soul and no one could live without its soul.
The chief justice said if the government should be aware about the consequences it did not take steps for maintain order.
“We do not want to say but the Constitution has fixed everyone’s responsibilities,” he said, adding that the court would have to take this matter like Karachi target killing.
