USAID aiding reconstruction of Malakand schools
 
 
 

PESHAWAR - USAID is providing financial assistance under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Reconstruction Programme for the reconstruction of damaged schools in Malakand Division, said Gregory Huger, Deputy Mission Director for KP/FATA USAID Pakistan.
He said the US government is supporting the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to restore public facilities and help people return to a life of normalcy.
The support includes short-term, quick impact livelihoods support and medium-term reconstruction and rehabilitation assistance.
A USAID delegation met with Muhammad Tahir Orakzai, Director General Provincial Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Settlement Authority-PaRRSA on Thursday here in Peshawar and discussed the developmental projects in details. The representatives of USAID and PaRRSA officers were also present at the occasion.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing and future USAID's assistance programs for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA especially the implementation arrangements for the reconstruction of militancy damaged schools in Malakand Division being implemented by PaRRSA.
Muhammad Tahir Orakzai informed the USAID delegation, USAID is providing financial assistance for the reconstruction of 117 schools damaged during militancy and 5 schools damaged during Flood 2010 in Malakand Division.  Out of 122 schools the reconstruction of 70 schools have been completed and handed over to Education Department.  He said, PaRRSA is in the process to change its strategy of implementation to increase the pace of reconstruction works so that the construction works complete in time.  PaRRSA is also working on future reconstruction program planning, he concluded.
