Lahore- Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashud said today that the terrorists caught in Raiwind wanted to target Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s private residence in the same area.
Speaking to media, the minister said that terrorist’s network wanted to take revenge of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and were planning to attack PM residence which is just 2.5 KM away from the scene where terrorists were hiding in a compound. Rana said seven terrorists and two cops were killed. He said terrorists were attacking security forces with heavy weapons including hand grenades and rocket launchers. The minister said the owner of house has been arrested and investigation was underway.
The minister said that terror network in Punjab has been disbanded added that no terror group has yet claimed affiliation with attackers. The exchange of fire between police and terrorists started at around 2:00am and continued for several hours. Police said four terrorists, including a woman are holed up in the compound located in Pind Araiyan, a small village on outskirts of Lahore. They used heavy weapons against the Police. The operation was launched after information about presence of a group of terrorists in a compound. Heavy contingent of police, Elite Force commandos and Rangers have been called in to capture the terrorists. Armored vehicles are also taking part in the operation.
