Three more peacocks die

THARPARKAR - Deadly Ranikhet in Tharparkar spread its wings as it took three more peacocks’ lives on Sunday, taking death toll to 49.
These peacocks died at village Sajai and Dabri area of Tehsil Deplo. Local people blamed the Wildlife Department for its inaction despite the epidemic viral disease Ranikhet taking heavy toll of the unprotected peacocks.
Dozens of other peacocks are also suffering from the same disease and it is feared that toll may rise.
, if no immediate steps are taken to overcome the problem.
Last year, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) killed more than 300 peacocks in different parts of Tharparkar. More than 40,000 wild peacocks are present in Tharparkar but their number is declining because of poaching and lack of effective conservation.
