State of high alert in KP health facilities

PESHAWAR - On the directions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health, Shahram Khan Tarakai, a state of high alert has been imposed in all the health institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and leaves of all the staff of healthcare services delivery outlets have been cancelled with immediate effect owing to security situation in the province.
The health department has issued a notification to this effect directing all the heads of health facilities to maintain a state of high alert and ensure availability of staff/facilities, especially at accident and emergency departments. This has been decided in wake of the military operation in North Waziristan Agency and the expected fallout in the settled areas.
Similarly, capital city police have been directed to keep tight security in and around the city to avert major terror activities.
Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Zahirul Islam has imposed section 144 in the provincial capital and banned use of tinted glasses in private and public vehicles, display of weapons and unregistered vehicles.
Police department has chalked out strategy to counter the reaction of militants, police officials said, adding the security of provincial capital and government installations was put on high alert.
Extra contingents of police have been deployed near border areas of Khyber Agency and Peshawar. Police are frisking all suspected persons, who are coming to Peshawar from Bara and other parts of Khyber Agency.
Police are also checking vehicle at Peshawar Motorway Toll Plaza to keep close watch on militants and suspected terrorists.
