OKARA - Police conducted a raid and found hundreds of dead chickens and seized a huge quantity of contaminated meat at a sale centre on the Mandi Road here. The dead meat was to be supplied to the Sahiwal Central Jail.Two accused were arrested and the sale centre’s owner managed to escape. The dead meat was going to be supplied to Sahiwal Central Jail. The arrested criminals confessed the crime. As per a report, SHO A Division police was tipped off that at Mehboob Alam Chawk, dead chickens were being sold. The police raided and found maunds of carrions at the shop of Nazeer Hussain alias Kali. The police arrested Zubair and Taukeer Abbas, residents of Sahiwal. The accused disclosed that the dead meat was used to be supplied to Sahiwal Central Jail. Veterinary Officer Mohammad Shabbir Shaheen said that the chickens present at the shop were also suffering from Rani Kheith disease. “This disease is not dangerous for human life. If birds are slaughtered properly, they are not harmful,” he added. SHO Malik Tariq Javeed Awan said that raids were being conducted to arrest the escaped accused. It is worth noting at poultry control sheds, a disease broke out some two weeks ago. As a result, thousands of chickens have died and the dead chickens were being thrown pits and canals in nights. Simultaneously, the dead meat is also being sold in the market. ROBBERIES: In two incidents of robbers, two vehicles were snatched at gunpoint.
