Islamabad: The Estate Office has sought the Prime Minister’s Office help to vacate government houses under illegal occupation of retired employees.
According to a source, around 515 houses in Islamabad are still in illegal occupation of retired government employees despite repeated notices issued to them by the Estate Office to vacate accommodations.
According the source, the Estate Office has no record of the allottees of at least 2,880 government houses out of 14,829 government houses in Islamabad. This serious issue was taken up in a recent meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works.
Over 515 houses were still under the use of retired government officials while 949 allottees were not paying rents.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Durrani had briefed the committee that the Estate Office has no enough powers to vacate illegal occupation of houses. According the source, a four-member committee has been formed to probe the issue.
