Two prayer leaders of Afghan origin held

MARDAN - The local police have arrested two prayer leaders of different mosques who belonged to Afghanistan in the limits of Laundkhwar Police Station in tehsil Takhtbai, police sources said on Wednesday.The sources in the police department said that Laundkhwar police arrested Pash Imams of different mosques in the limits of their police stations under the Foreign Act. The arrested prayer leaders are identified as Juma Khan son of Murad Mohammad, resident of Laghman province of Afghanistan, now prayer leader at Izat Khan Killy Hatyan mosque and Shamsul Islam, son of Mohammad Raheem, resident of Laghman province of Afghanistan, now prayer leader at Sarwarabad mosque. Few years ago when militant activities had increased in the country, the government had issued a letter to all the Deputy Inceptor Generals (DIGs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) of the province to start crackdown against those Pash Imams who belonged to Afghanistan in the district and remove them from the mosques. The sources said that in this connection the government also issued a letter to Mardan district police and district police because at that time militancy was taking roots in Mardan district and the city police had started a campaign in this connection and arrested several Pash Imams who belonged to Afghanistan.
