PTI clarifies stance on 'dead' worker

KARACHI- Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alavi on Monday clarified that the injured activist who was shot a day earlier in Jhelum is in fact alive, contrary to a claim made by PTI Information Secretary Shireen Mazari in an earlier press conference.

PTI Shireen Mazari had said that one of their workers, Adnan, succumbed to his injuries. However on inquiry, the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Jhelum administration denied Mazari's claim and said the patient, Adnan, was alive and under treatment. Talking to a private news channel, PTI leader Arif Alvi said the hospital did the right thing by rejecting Mazari's claim. "We were misinformed but it is a blessing that [Adnan] is alive and getting better," the PTI leader said.

Alvi also said that they had tried to confirm the incident but were given wrong informed about the death of their worker, adding that they were in contact with all the injured and the doctors looking after their treatment.

According to police, eight people were injured when gunmen opened fire at workers making their way to a PTI rally in Jhelum. The injured had been rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, where two of the eight were said to be seriously injured.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the District Police Officer (DPO) Jhelum over the incident.
