DIR UPPER - Religious scholars on Sunday urged parents to ensure administration of polio vaccines to their children below five years of age so as to control the disease in the country and save the children from being paralysed. Speaking at a press conference, Maulana Hazrat Said and Maulana Riazullah said the polio drops, as being propagated by certain elements, did not contain any Un-Islamic or harmful contents. Flanked by district Incharge Expended Programme for Immunisation Dr Nazar Muhammad, Coordinator National Research Development Foundation (NRDF) Sahibzada Izharullah and Unicefs M Imran, they said refusal from drops to children carried the risk that they would be paralysed while vaccinating them had no harm effects, rather it would save them from the crippling disease. The ulema said it was collective responsibility of the society to eradicate the disease, adding that the teachings of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) also stressed on taking measures for preventing or curing diseases. They said there was complete unanimity among ulema that polio drops were having any un-Islamic contents and not harmful for health and therefore be administered to children.
