ISLAMABAD- The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) today has sought a counter argument from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Worker’s Party Pakistan in reference to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s response submitted to a petition filed in the SC, seeking electoral reforms and verification of voter’s thumb impressions.
Justice Sheikh Azmat said that the country was facing complications for not instituting electoral reforms in Pakistan and would continue to cope with more challenges in future. A three member bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the ongoing case for thumb impression verification and electoral reforms. He remarked that the Supreme Court had passed a comprehensive judgment regarding the electoral reforms, adding that he was not sure if it had been followed. On this occasion, Justice Sheikh Azmat said that the government would continue to withstand challenges for not following the electoral reforms.
Secretary ECP Ishtiaq Ahmed was summoned by the court and was inquired about the delay in the thumb impressions verification case. He responded that the thumb impressions had been verified in the four constituencies and the response by ECP has already been submitted. The court ordered PTI and worker’s party to submit their counter-argument. The case was adjourned until October 13.
