Sherpao demands CJP-led probe into Panama leaks

PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said an independent Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan should be formed to probe Panama Leaks report.
Addressing a Press conference at Watan Kor on Sunday, he said that Panama Leaks had created an atmosphere of unprecedented uproar among people and they wanted impartial inquiry into the matter.
He added that Commission headed by a retired judge was unacceptable to his party.
On the occasion, Haji Inayatullah Khan, Dr Ulfat Hussain Bangash, Engineer Naseebullah Khan and Hameedullah Wazir joined the party.
Aftab Sherpao said participants of All Parties Conference (APC) on conduct of fresh population census had unanimously agreed on to start it as soon as possible without any further delay.
He said that he would raise this issue at National Assembly’s floor and would also write a letter to Prime Minister along with a copy of the declaration passed by political leaders.
Talking about Pak-Afghan relations, QWP chief said an environment of trust deficit still existed between the two neighbouring states, adding, levelling of baseless allegations and issuance of irresponsible statements against each other could further increase misunderstanding and mistrust between them.
“Government should take input from Pakhtun leadership while formulating policies regarding Pakhtun belt and Afghanistan,” he asked.
Emphasizing on restoration of peace in the region, Aftab Sherpao said no landmark achievement had been surfaced after formation of Quadrilateral Coordination Group on Afghan peace and reconciliation.
“It clearly indicates that there is also trust deficit amongst them. There is a strong need for restoration of peace and it is the time to devise strategies and policies in order to speed up process of achieving an everlasting peace in the entire region,” he expressed.
He, on the occasion, also asked the Federal government to announce a comprehensive package for rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in FATA.
He said that the fate of FATA should be decided as soon as possible because the system under FCR had miserably failed to mainstream the tribesmen.
“Merging of FATA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is the only solution to all problems of the tribal people as it will further strengthen voice of the Pakhtuns.”
Commenting on Afghan Refugees repatriation, he said, “We had served them for three and half decades in time of distress. Government should adopt a soft and mild policy to help ensure their repatriation process with honour and respect.”
Aftab Sherpao further said time was rich for the unity of Pakhtuns and only a united voice could help resolve issues and problems of the Pakhtuns. “And if we do not unite under one platform at this stage then our future generations would have to face dire consequences in their socio-economic life,” he concluded.
