PESHAWAR- Former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Mr Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has supported the end of moratorium on execution of condemned terrorist prisoners. The government should have done so earlier.
Talking to media persons here at the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, the former CJP said during his tenure the moratorium on execution was examined. He said the execution, which is written in the constitution and the law would serve as deterrence. He said more than four hundred mercy petitions have been rejected and the sentences for execution should be implemented at the earliest.
While condemning the Army Public School tragedy in the strongest terms, Mr Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry said it is a national strategy. He said an effective action is need of the hour against terrorists. He expressed the hope that army and other institutions investigating the attack would be successful to identify the elements behind the heinous act.
