ISLAMABAD -In a major reshuffle, the federal government has appointed Haji Habib-ur-Rehman, a Grade 21 PSP officer, as the new Punjab IGP (inspector general of police), while his predecessor Javed Iqbal (Grade 22) is now assigned the job of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)Director General (DG).
According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, the FIA chief, Syed Tehseen Anwar Shah (Grade 21 PSP officer) has been appointed as the DG National Police Bureau.
Javed Iqbal will be the 7th DG of FIA during the tenure of the government, as Syed Tehseen Anwar Shah, Malik Mohammad Iqbal, Waseem Ahmed, Zafarullah Khan, Tariq Masood Khosa and Tariq Pervaiz have earlier held the slot. Iqbal has also previously served in the FIA.
Haji Habibwas already at the disposal of Punjab and rendering his services as the Punjab ConstabularyCommandant. He has served as SP Traffic Faisalabad, SSP DI Khan and DIG Peshawar. He also remained CCPO Lahore when the PPP-led federal government imposed Governor’sRule in Punjab.
Javed Iqbal is set to retire in August 2013 after reaching the age of superannuation, while Haji Habibwill retire in the beginning of next year.
