Drug Regulatory Authority established




ISLAMABAD- The federal government on Friday issued a notification for the constitution of Drug Regularity Authority (DRA).
The DRA, comprising 13 members, will be headed by a chief executive. The health secretaries from all the four provinces will be the members of the authority, which is designated to work under the cabinet secretary, while its head office would be established in Islamabad.
According to the notification, the chief executive will have a post-graduate qualification and 20-year experience. One member each will also be taken from the federation, doctors and pharmacists.
The DRA has been mandated to ensure licencing, registration and quality of medicines in the country.
Meanwhile, Attorney General for Pakistan MolviAnwarulHaq said that credit for developing consensus over establishment of Drug Regulatory Agency (DRA) went to the Prime Minister who promptly took initiative and issued direction to concerned authorities for obtaining support of provincial assemblies.
Talking to APP here in his office, the AG said for the first time Article 144 of the Constitution was invoked for establishment of DRA.
