MOHMAND AGENCY/PESHAWAR – Gunmen killed renowned journalist Mukarram Khan Atif when he was offering his prayer at a mosque in Shabqadar area of district Charsadda on Tuesday evening. He was 40.
Sources said that journalist Mukarram Khan, after shifting from Mohmand Agency, got settled in Shabqadar area of Charsadda. The tragic incident occurred when he was offering evening prayer near his house in Deppo Korona area of tehsil Shabqadar. He sustained multiple head injuries and succumbed to his wounds at Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital. Mukarram had affiliation with Dewa Radio. He also served as correspondent of various newspapers. He was active among the tribal journalists and also served as correspondent of a private TV channel.
It is to be mentioned here that last year eminent journalist Pervez Khan, a correspondent of Nawa-i-Waqt and the Waqt News, was killed in the twin suicide attacks in Ghalanai, headquarters of Mohmand Agency. Pervez, 27, was present at the office of assistance political agent when the suicide attackers blew themselves up. Similarly, another journalist, Abdul Wahab of another TV channel, was also killed in the blast.
Pervez had been reporting for Nawa-i-Waqt and Waqt News for the last several years. Despite deteriorating law and order situation in Mohmand Agency, journalists are discharging their duties with commitment.
