Demoted cops continue performing duties with old ranks

PESHAWAR - Despite clear directives of Inspector General of Police, the demoted police officer still follow the order regarding abolishment of shoulder promotion policy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sources told TheNation that the demoted police officers continued to perform their duties with their old ranks and badges, as they argue that no proper notification had been issued to them to remove their badges. They said until person-to-person notifications were issued to them, they would continue their work in their old positions. Those who are working with same ranks mostly include junior officers and they are much upset with this decision of the Supreme Court. Sources said those who were given promotion two grades up would also be badly affected with this decision of the apex court. In the wake of the shortage of senior police officers in the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has decided to contact Federal Government to manage transfer of senior officers of police who belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Due to abolishment of shoulder promotion policy nine DIGs, 24 Superintend of police and Deputy superintend of police and hundred of lower rank police officers would be affected, however so far the decision has not been implemented and several police officers are doing their duty with same ranks. It has been learnt that shoulder promotion policy in Punjab and Sindh provinces have already been abolished following the order the supreme court of Pakistan. Around 80 senior police officers have been demoted to their old position in Punjab. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Fiaz Ahmad Khan Toro has also directed that four DIGs and other police officers to continue work on their old position till to the next order. A case was also under trail in supreme court of Pakistan regarding shoulder promotion in which Inspector General of police Fiaz Ahmad Toro during a hearing admitted that several officers has been transferred to Punjab and Sindh due to the poor law and order situation in KPK due to which the KPK province facing acute shortage of senior police officers. Several DIGs, DPOs, DSPs, SHOs, Sub inspector and Assistant Sub inspector have been given shoulder promotion in the last few year who would be demoted one rank back from their old positions, while some of the officer in Frontier Constabulary have been awarded two rank shoulder promotion to some of their officers.
