RAWALPINDI - There was no let-up in target killings in the city as two more people belonging to Ahle Sunnat Wel Jamaat (ASWJ) were shot dead by unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle at Biscuit Factory Chowk on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Raja Saif Ullah, ASWJ finance secretary, and Muhammad Aslam, an activist, resident of Shakrial. The killers managed to escape after committing the crime. The dead bodies were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital by Rescue 1122 for autopsy.
According to ASWJ spokesman, Hafiz Mazhar Siddiqui, Raja Saif and Muhammad Aslam were returning to their home on a motorcycle when two assailants riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on them at Biscuit Factory Chowk on Dhamial Road. As a result, both were killed while the attackers fled from the scene, he added.
The dead bodies were shifted to DHQ by Rescue 1122 for autopsy.
The news of killing of two ASWJ activists spread in the city like a jungle fire as a large number of enraged workers gathered on Chakri Road and outside Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and staged protest demonstrations against the killing of their companions. Gathering of ASWJ workers on roads created a massive traffic mess.
The protesters chanted slogans against police and other law enforcement agencies over their failure in controlling spike of target killings in the city.
They demanded Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the killings of ASWJ members.
