Bolton Market traders receive keys of rebuilt shops

KARACHI - Provincial Minister for Information Technology, Raza Haroon, has said that it is not less than a miracle in the country that dozens of buildings on MA Jinnah Road, which were razed during Ashura tragedy, have been reconstructed and hundreds of traders have got their businesses back within a short period of only two years. Such work would not have been possible without a sincere leadership and it is the result of efforts of Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain, President Asif Ali Zardari, Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and the then City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal which have made this possible. He expressed these views while speaking at a ceremony held at Bolton Market on Friday to hand over keys of the reconstructed shops at Quettawala Market. Former President of Chamber of Commerce & Industry A Q Khalil and President Bolton Market Association Rafiq Jadoon also spoke on this occasion. The provincial minister said in Pakistan affectees of such incidents had received very little compensation in past but the affectees of Ashura incident in Karachi were completely rehabilitated. AQ Khalil on this occasion informed that 60 per cent work of the affected buildings on MA Jinnah Road had been completed and a total of 1,774 traders had received Rs 1,800,000,000 as compensation. He also thanked former city nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for helping and supporting people at their difficult times. Rafiq Jadoon said today 342 shopkeepers were receiving keys of their shops while the remaining work was under way speedily. Meanwhile, Raza Haroon on Thursday night visited city government landfill sites at Jam Chakro and Gondpas where he inspected the facilities provided for dumping and disposal of garbage. He was accompanied by EDO Municipal Services Masood Alam, EDO Finance Aamir Khurshid, Rasheed Jamal and other officers.
