PESHAWAR : The faithful from several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will observe the first fasting today (Thursday) while rest of the country will observe the first of Ramazan on Friday (tomorrow). Unofficial Ruet-e-Hilal committee at Masjid Qasim Ali Khan in Peshawar announced Ramazan moon sighting on Wednesday night, saying the first fasting would be observed today (Thursday).
According to the chief cleric of the mosque and the local committee chairman, Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, some 10 people saw the moon in Peshawar, five each in Sawabi and Charsadda, 3 in Shabaadar, one in Kohat, three each in Mardan and Bajaur and four in Bannu. Mufti Popalzai said they could not ignore so many witnesses. He said the moon had been sighted in different parts of the province and the first fasting would be observed in the province today (Thursday). APP adds from Karachi: Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman announced here on Wednesday that the Ramazan-ul-Mubarik moon has not been sighted, so the first of Ramazan will be on June 19. No evidence of sighting of the moon was received from any part of the country, he added.
The meeting of the committee was held at the building of Pakistan Meteorological Department which was also attended by the other members of the committee.
