Didn’t join PPP to become governor: Makhdoom

RAHIM YAR KHAN - The Punjab governor said that he was not capable of being the Punjab governor but due to prayers and help of Allah Almighty he got the position, and added that he did not join the Pakistan People’s Party for governorship rather the reason behind defection was political.
Addressing an oath-taking ceremony of Rahim Yar Khan Press Club body, Syed Ahmed Mehmood said that the five-year PPP-led government was the best in the history as no political cases were registered against the opponents. The governor said that the period was clean and no politically victimisation was made. He praised the performance of all the members of parliament hailing from the district, saying that they worked day and night for the development of the district.
He urged the people to vote for the PPP candidates in the elections for better future of the country. He also praised local journalists, saying that he started his political career from the District Press Club. He said that he had old association with the journalists. He thanked Almighty Allah for granting him the post of Punjab governor.
He further said that he would work honestly during his tenure and not disappoint the people of Punjab.
Earlier, Press Club President Rana Imtiaz Ahmed and Sectary General Dr Mumtaz Monis welcomed the guests. In his speech, the president highlighted the issues and problems like Press Club’s building whereupon, the governor granted Rs250,000 to press club and promised more funds later.
The governor said that the Election Commission of Pakistan had restricted the use of official funds up to final results of the general elections. Former MNA Javed Iqbal Warraich, PPP district President Javed Akber Dhiloon also spoke on the occasion. Dr Mumtaz thanked all the guests. Later, a luncheon was held in honour of the guests.
