MIRPUR (AJK) - With the announcement of the general elections schedule in Azad Jammu Kashmir by the AJK Election Commission, the electioneering by the intending contestants including independent candidates and political parties as well as the general public including supporters has begun with an immense enthusiasm here on Tuesday. As reported earlier, Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections will be held on June 26, according to the schedule announced on Monday by the Chief Election Commissioner of AJK. Various political parties are joining heads to reach into the electoral alliances to field the joint candidates in the elections to 49-seat Legislative Assembly. May 26, is the last date for filing the nomination papers by the candidates intending to contest the polls, according to the elections schedule. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on May 30. Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers will be June 9 while final list of contesting candidates will be published on June 10. Some of the parties, intending to contest the polls under the fold of any alliance, are engaged to reach to formation of the alliance coupled with the specific intention to get maximum share of seats for fielding their respective candidates under the proposed alliances. Besides, various political parties, hundreds of independent candidates are also girding lions to jump into the arena to fight in the polls with their respective manifestos comprising tall claims of diverting their all energies and resources, on coming to power, for the betterment and welfare of the society and most commonly to raising the living standard of the common man. Besides various major political parties including Pakistan Peoples Party AJK Chapter, All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) AJK chapter, Jamaat-e-Islami AJK, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party, MQM, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation League, several small political organisations and groups in the AJK state are reportedly preparing for reaching into the electoral alliances to fight against the rival parties and independent candidates in the elections. The prominent political parties actively engaged in the massive electioneering appeared on the scene so far included the incumbent ruling All Jammu Kashmir Muslim Conference, opposition - Pakistan Peoples Party Azad Jammu Kashmir, PML-N AJK branch, Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jammu Kashmir Liberation League, Jammu Kashmir Plebiscite Front, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and Jammu Kashmir National Liberation Front who were preparing to emerge as the strongest possible contestant groups in the elections individually or through the proposed alliances. Since, according to the elections schedule, May 26, is the last date for filing the nomination papers by the candidates, various intending small contestant political parties accelerated their activities in holding meetings and contacts to form the electoral alliances besides to hold the meetings of their respective parliamentary boards to nominate their respective candidates in the elections. Certain candidates belonging to various parties, smelling denial of the party tickets by their parent organizations in the elections, were establishing hidden links with other reputed political parties to fetch their backing and the party mandate for contesting the polls. Various political parties, prepared for contesting the elections, have summoned the meetings of their respective parliamentary boards to nominate their respective candidates after thoroughly going through the applications of the aspirants of the party mandates already reached to various parties head offices for contesting the elections. At the same time, the candidates belonging to various parties as well as independent candidates have launched their respective election campaign in their respective electoral constituencies waving attractive commitments to attract and muster the support of the voters. The candidates are also engaged in holding corner meetings within four-walled premises in the wake of the recently-launched election campaign. Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Leagues President Justice (r) Abdul Majeed Mallick has advised the Chairman of the Parliament Board of his party to call a meeting of the parliamentary board to finalise the list of the partys candidates to be fielded in the scheduled AJK LA elections. Talking to this scribe , Justice (r) Majeed Mallick said that besides nominating the partys electoral candidates, the party might also discuss and finalise the idea of reaching of the party into an alliance, most probably with any like-minded political party. He said that since JKLL has decided to actively take part in the elections and said that the party intended to field its candidates in most of the constituencies of the AJK Legislative assembly for contesting the scheduled elections.
