Senate session on Monday

ISLAMABAD - The flood situation, MQM Quaid Altaf Hussains statement with regard to inviting patriotic generals of Army to uproot corruption from the country and killings of innocent people by Indian forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir would be the major issues to be discussed in the upcoming session of the Senate starting from Monday. President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the 64th session of the Senate on Monday evening and a notification has been issued in this regard, says a press release issued by Senate Secretariat. However, the sources in the Senate Secretariat disclosed that Mondays session would be adjourned after offering fateha for the departed soul of PML-F Senator and Federal Minister for Local Government, Abdul Razzaq Thaheem and the formal session would start from Tuesday. A heated debate is expected in the Upper House on the recent floods that have affected more than 20 million people while causing losses worth billions to the economy in the shape of destroying the infrastructure across the country. The relief and rehabilitation operations in the affected areas along with the issue of making breaches in protective spurs by politicians and influential figures to save their agriculture lands from flood waters would also come under discussion in the House. Awami National Party (ANP) has already submitted an adjournment motion in the Senate to discuss the issue of making breaches allegedly by politicians and influential people. The statement of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief, Altaf Hussain about inviting Army to stop corruption would be another issue for discussion in the Senate. In his statement, Altaf Hussain had invited the 'patriotic generals to come forward to eradicate corruption in the country. He had stressed the need for a revolution similar to that of 'French Revolution saying that his party would lead such revolution. He had said that MQM would not let the corrupt politicians and feudal lords to escape the country. To confront the situation arising due to its chiefs statement, MQM had also submitted two privilege motions in Senate Secretariat against the leaders of PML-N for their alleged deal with Pervez Musharraf to leave the country after the military coup in October, 1999 and their secret meetings with army generals. The brutalities of Indian forces in the held Kashmir including the recent brutal killings of 17 unarmed and innocent protestors will also be discussed in the House. The Indian forces had opened indiscriminate fire on the Kashmir protestors at a time when they took to streets after reports of desecration of Holy Quran in US. The issue of lynching of two brothers in Sialkot will be another topic that will come under discussion in the upcoming session of the House. Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) had submitted three adjournment motions in the Senate secretariat seeking debate over the lynching of two brothers in Sialkot, killing of 476 people in 50 US drone attacks this year and the recent 26 paisa increase by Nepra in power tariff.
