PESHAWAR- At least 40 militants were killed and their five hideouts and ammunition dumps also destroyed in aerial strikes by Pakistan Air Force fighter planes in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday.
According to ISPR, Pakistan Air Force pounded militant positions at Nawa Kali and Zaram Asar villages of Datta Khel tehsil as a part of the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation against local and foreign militants in the Agency.
In these precise strikes, at least 40 militants including foreigners were killed. Besides, in these fresh airstrikes, five militant hideouts and ammunition depots were also destroyed, the ISPR said.
Pakistan army launched a full scale operation ‘Zarb-i-Azb’ against local and foreiner militants In North Waziristan on June 15 last. The operation was launched following a deadly attack on Karachi international airport which killed 37 people including 10 terrorists. In three months of operation, the military said it had cleared more than 80 per cent of the territory in North Waziristan including its regional headquarters of Miranshah and killed at least 1,000 militants so far.
It was the second day of air assaults after 31 militants and three soldiers were killed on Tuesday last in two separate incidents. Due to the military operation, over one million tribesmen have migrated to downtowns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Agencies add: A military statement said that ‘in precise aerial strikes’ 40 insurgents including foreigners were killed in the villages of Nawe Kili and Zaram Asar, north of Dattakhel in North Waziristan.
TWO MILITANTS ARRESTED IN PESHAWAR
Two militants affiliated with a banned religious outfit were arrested during a joint search action carried out by police and security forces in outskirts of the provincial metropolis on Wednesday. According to details, two militants identified as Misri Khan and Walayat sons of Banaras Khan resident of Adezai Mattani locality, were wanted by police in various acts of militancy including attacks on Peace Committee members.
The two militants were apprehended during a combing clean up operation conducted by police along with security forces at Mattani Adezai area. The arrested militants were stated to be affiliated with Tariq Geedar group. The arrested terrorists are said to be involved in attacks on Aman Lashkar and terrorist activities in areas of Peshawar.
Police also recovered religious Jehadi literature and pamphlets from their possession.
The militants were also involved in attacks on peace lashkar members in Mattani and Adezai areas.
Police shifted them to an undisclosed location for investigation.
