SC rejects Imran Khan’s petition against NAB chief’s appointment

Islamabad- The Supreme Court today rejected petitions challenging the appointment of Qamar Zaman Chaudhry as Chairman of the National Accountability (NAB).

PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had challenged the appointment. Justice Nasir ur Mulk headed a three-judge bench which heard the case. Aitizaz Ahsan, counsel for opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah, argued that President was bound to act upon the advice of Prime Minister after the passage of 18th Amendment.

“When court takes notice under Article 184, it restricts one’s right to appeal,” he said. Justice Amir Hani Muslim said that court was given this right by the constitution.

“It there is any review petition, it should be turned into an appeal. I had given this proposal to former chief justice also,” Ahsan said. He said that Imran Khan should legislate if he had objections to the process of appointment of NAB’s chief. Khawaja Harris, the counsel for federal government, said opposition leader is backed by all opposition members sitting in the house. The apex court, later, dismissed the petitions.
