QUETTA-Lawyers fraternity boycotted courts on Friday in protest against the abduction of a lawyer Munir Mirwari and threatened that if he was not released immediately they would go on indefinite strike. Balochistan Bar Association made an appeal for strike to protest over the abduction of a lawyer who was kidnapped by unidentified persons on Thursday night from Khuzdar. There was also a complete shutterdown strike in Khuzdar town on the call of BNP against abduction of its central leader. Unidentified people torched a bus which was badly damaged on the main highway near Khuzdar town. However, the driver and cleaners of bus which was going back to Karachi after unloading motorcycles in Quetta remained safe. The lawyers in Quetta did not appear before court proceedings in lower and upper courts because of the strike. However, reports from others districts like Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Kharan, Chaghi, Naushki, Kechh, Gwadar, Panjgur, Sibi, Lasbela, Awaran, Nasirabad and Jaffar said that there was complete boycott by the lawyers against the abduction. Meanwhile, an emergent meeting of Balochistan Bar Association, Supreme Court Bar Association, Balochistan Bar Council was held here in the district bar room with senior lawyer Hadi Shakeel to discuss the modalities for the future line of action if the government failed to secure the release of Munir Mirwari. Speaking on the occasion, Hadi Shakeel and former Senator Amanullah Kunrani condemned the abduction of Munir Mirwari advocate from Khuzdar and demanded of the government for his early recovery. They expressed deep concern over growing incidents of lawyers abduction in Quetta and other parts of the province and said that a couple of months one of their colleague Iftikharul Haq was kidnapped and now Munir Mirwari. They said that Iftikhar was released in the wake of strong protest of the lawyers that forced the government to recover through its efforts. They said that now again the lawyers would initiate a strong protest over the abduction if the government failed to make any effort for the recovery of the abductee. They said that the government had failed to provide protection to the lives and properties of the citizens and now the lawyers were forced to protect themselves instead of relying on law-enforcing agencies. Meanwhile, the meeting of all lawyers bodies decided to call another meeting of same bodies to finalise the schedule of protest camapign which also included demos, rallies, boycotts of courts proceedings etc for the release of Munir Mirwari.
