Islamabad- The government is contemplating to place names of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders on Exit Control List (ECL) following disclosures of death row convict Saulat Mirza, local media quoting sources reported today.
According to reports, MQM’s Saif Abbas, Wasay Jalil, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Waseem Akhtar, Babar Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizwi, Faisal Sabzwari and Amir Khan may be put on ECL.
A notification is likely to be issued soon after federal interior ministry’s approval. Government’s ECL section has started working in this regard. Ex- MQM worker Saulat Mirza managed to dodge his hanging for 72 hours and showed some of the 'devastating cards' he had so far kept close to his chest.
"On the behest of party's London-based leader Altaf Hussain, Senator Babar Ghouri ordered the four of us to gun down Shahid Hamid, the then managing director of the power utility, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (K-Electric) ," Mirza alleged in a rare statement issued from his death cell Wednesday night.
The dead-man-talking also accused the Governor of Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad of using his authority to have the criminals find a safe passage. The Governor House, in a late night statement, denied these accusations in the strongest of words.
In his video statement, Mirza also dragged Pakistan People's Party (PPP) into the 'accusatory picture' by alleging that the MQM had him facilitated when Asif Ali Zardari-led political party was in power.
