Veteran Leaguer Ali Khan Hoti passes away



PESHAWAR  - Former leader of the house in Senate, former federal minister and veteran Leaguer Muhammad Ali Khan Hoti died after protracted illness at a private hospital in Islamabad Thursday evening at the age of 90.
His funeral prayer would be offered on Friday (today) at 11 am at Par Hoti, Mardan, said family members. He was on bed for last one year and was suffering from heart and lungs diseases.
His association with the Pakistan Muslim League spread over 70 years and had never joined any other party throughout his political career. He remained federal minister for education and health during the period of former President Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1965 and former president Ziaul Haq in 1978.
He was elected leader of the opposition in Senate in 1988 during the tenure of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and leader of house in Senate during Mian Nawaz Sharif’s period in 1993. He remained senator from 1985 to 1994.
Born on Oct 15, 1922, late Muhammad Ali Khan Hoti had done his senior Cambridge from Dhera Dhone India and joined All India Muslim League in 1944. He was elected general secretary All India Muslim League KPK in 1945 and was elected member West Pakistan Assembly in 1965. He was the father-in-law of Federal Secretary Javed Iqbal and Additional Chief Secretary KPK Attaullah Khan Toru.
