Dr Muhammad Afzal has assumed the charge as acting vice chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur and the Govt Sadiq College Women University, Bahawalpur.
The Higher Education Department has issued the notification in this regard. He belongs to Bahawalpur region and possesses vast teaching and administrative experience. He got education up to Matriculation in Fort Abbas. In 1980, he passed MSc Physics examination with distinction from Punjab University Lahore. In 1983, he joined Physics Department of IUB as lecturer and later on was elevated to the rank of professor in 2003 in the same department.
Meantime, he completed his PhD and Post Doc from Dundee University, England. His original field of studies is Medical Physics and he enjoys an exclusive status in this field across the country. He has presented his research papers in various international conferences organised in Korea, China and Great British. Under his supervision, seven PhD scholars and 70 MPhil scholars have completed their research work and thesis.
He has been posted on a number of most significant administrative positions, which include director of the Advanced Studies and Research Board. He has played a vital role in strengthening and development of physics and social work departments. He is presently serving as chairman of the Department of Physics.
He has the distinction of introducing the latest subject of Medical Physics in his department and also launched research on MRI, CT scanning and Cancer Radio Therapy. He has also been serving as a convener of Physics Subjects Committee of National Testing Service and remained a member of the Special Advisory Committee of Higher Education. The faculty, employees and students of IUB have warmly welcomed the appointment of Dr Afzal Khan as vice chancellor while the educational, social circles and civil society lauded the Punjab government’s decision.
