Custom officials accused of 'illegally' seizing IDPs vehicles

PESHAWAR - Elders of the militancy-hit North Waziristan Agency and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have demanded of the government to take action against police and costume officials for illegally seizing their vehicles and allegedly taking extortion at check posts on keeping Non Custom Paid(NCP) vehicles.
Addressing a news conference on Thursday here at press club, An elder of North Waziristan Malik Zafarullah Wazir said that when security forces decided to launch military assault against terrorists in NWA, all the tribal people accepted the decision and started migration towards settled areas in the best interest of the country.
He said that most of the tribal people left their homes and luggage and shifted in their vehicles to settled areas of district Bannu and D.I.Khan etc. "Owing to military action in their respective areas, thousands of tribal families were compelled to shift to makeshift camps established by Pak Army," he added. Zafar said though Pakistan Army gave them No Objection Certificates (NOC) for keeping NCP vehicles but officials of the local police and costume department teas them at different routes.
Flanked by Shaukat Khan and Malik Musa Khan, he alleged that police and costume department officials have turned their lives miserable, as they seize their vehicles on daily basis in the name of special checking. "A costume department Inspector Saeed off-loaded two vehicles, carrying IDPs, including women and children from Kohat on main road and seized vehicles for no reason and left the women and children helpless," he alleged.
He said that Chamkani police, Matani police, Gorgori police and Sher Garh Mardan police seized dozens of vehicles of IDPs due to which they were confronting with immense difficulties. He also alleged that police officials also stole tape recorders, seats, and other precious parts from their vehicles, which is a shameful and deplorable act.
The IDPs elders demanded of the chief minister, governor and IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and high-ups of costume department to take notice of the injustices of police and costume officials, otherwise threatened to launch a protest demonstration.
