Buner- Unidentified gunmen shot dead a local leader of the Awami National Party in Buner today, police and the party said.
Police said the armed men stopped the car of ANP leader, Muhammad Afzal Khan, at Juar area and sprayed bullets, killing him at the scene. He was accompanied by some other friends however no one was hurt. The gunmen fled after the shooting. No group claimed responsibility. The police said they are investigating motives behind the attack. Taliban, had in the past claimed responsibility for attacks on the ANP leaders in Buner. The Taliban accuse the ANP of supporting the military operation against them. In another incident, unidentified threw a hand grenade at the house of a slain ANP leader at Mashokhel area near Peshawar, causing partial damage to the building. No one was hurt. However the gunmen later entered the house of ANP leader Mian Mushatq kidnapped some of his relatives. The police conducted a search operation but no one was arrested.
