Zardari takes Asfand on board on Karachi

ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari is understood to have taken on board ANP, one of the important PPP coalition partners, over Karachi situation and the government steps to tackle the challenge. According to informed sources, the President held consultations with ANP Chief Asfand Yar Wali Khan who called on him at Aiwan-e Sadr late Friday over the latest wave of violence in Karachi. Although neither ANP nor President Zardaris media office were immediately available to confirm the development, the sources said that the President had taken the ANP chief into confidence over the latest Karachi situation and the government strategy to tackle it. The sources said that Zardari also apprised Asfand about the three-member committee set up to tackle the violent situation in Karachi. The committee comprises Sindh Governor, Chief Minister and Home Minister. The President, according to the sources, also took the ANP Chief on board over the MQM decision to rejoin the PPP-led government, which Asfand ostensibly lauded for restoration of peace in the port city.
