Application for extension of Afghan refugees' stay filed in SC

ISLAMABAD: Advocate Zulfiqar Bhutta on Saturday filed an application in the Supreme Court regarding the extension in the stay of Afghan refugees in the country.

The applicant appealed that the Afghan immigrants should be allowed to stay in the country for another five years.

The applicant claimed that the government has allowed the Afghan immigrants to stay in the country till November 2016, adding that the security institutions of the country were harassing the Afghan immigrants despite the government’s permission allowing them to remain in Pakistan.

The applicant stated that the security institutions intended to take advantage from the assets owned by Afghan immigrants.

Furthermore, it was requested that the immigrants who had assets worth Rs 20 million in the country should be allowed to stay for five years and those who had assets equivalent to Rs 10 million should be allowed to stay for two years whereas rest of the Afghan immigrants should be allowed to remain in the country till December 2017, the applicant requested.
