ISLAMABAD - Fearing a violent backlash from the militants after the government decided to hang terrorists detained in country's different prisons, the law enforcing agencies have expedited their hunt for the terrorists and their sympathizers as the LEAs conducted a search operation in capital's suburbs on Friday night.
On the other hand, the management of four universities running under the supervision of defence institutions have decided to close down the institutions for a week (till December 26) due to security reasons. These educational institutions include Bahria University, Air University, National University of Science and Technology, and National University of Modern Languages, said the sources on Friday. Examinations to be conducted in Bahria University on December 29 have been rescheduled for January 5 next year, they added. According to the sources, the militants have threatened to kidnap students of the educational institutions being run by the military establishment which forced immediate closure of these institutions.
According to the sources, the LEAs on Friday night started a search operation in the suburban areas of the capital including Khanna Pul to look for any suspect linked with the acts of terrorism. The LEAs in the federal capital were already on high alert. Furthermore, the sources said that the government in consultation with the government and other stake holders has decided to launch a grand search operation in the slums in I-11 sector of the federal capital which house a large number of Afghan citizens.
The LEAs believed that the Katchi Abadi is the main source of unrest and bad law and order in the twin cities. The issue of I-11 locality has had been a source of tension for the government with few politicians from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the NGOs opposing any action against the inhabitants and it fears a backlash from the Afghan citizens in case the government decided to dislodge them from the site. The government in recent past also had decided to dislodge the Afghan citizens but at the last moment the interior ministry decided against it stating a backlash from the inhabitants.
