Justice (R) Tariq Pervaiz takes over as KPK caretaker CM

Justice (retd) Tariq Pervaiz was sworn in as caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Wednesday afternoon and became the first caretaker ahead of general elections.
Provincial Governor Engineer Shaukat Ullah administered the oath of office to the caretaker Chief Minister at a simple but impressive ceremony which was attended by senior officials.
On advice of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engr. dissolved the provincial assembly on Tuesday.
Last Friday, the government and the opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa announced the name of Justice (retd) Tariq Pervaiz Khan‚ a former judge of the Supreme Court‚ as the caretaker chief minister.
Justice Rtd Tariq Pervaiz was born in Peshawar on 15th February 1948. He  had served as president of PHC Bar Association in 1996 and became judge of the Peshawar High Court in 2005.
He was appointed as chief justice of PHC on April 5‚ 2005‚ and elevated to the Supreme Court in Oct 2009. He retired from that post on Feb 14 this year.
Meanwhile his nomination as caretaker chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been challenged in Peshawar High Court (PHC).
Senior lawyer Muhibullah Kakakhel filed a petition in the court in which he contended that under article 207 of the constitution, the former justice could not become a caretaker chief minister as a government official could not hold public office for two years after retirement.
