PESHAWAR/NORTH WAZIRISTAN - A suspected militant and his five family members including a child were killed when a mortar shell exploded at his home in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday.
Local sources said the incident occurred at the house of a local commander at Shawal Tehsil in North Waziristan Agency, when he was busy removing explosives from a mortar shell. As he started work on the device, it exploded with big bang, killing six persons including a child. A woman was also injured as a result of the blast.
According to Bomb Disposal Squad team, at least half kg of explosives was used in the bomb. North Waziristan is situated in the northwestern parts of the country with the latter being one of country’s seven semi-autonomous tribal regions.
It is pertinent to mention that the government is holding negotiations with the TTP in a bid to end a bloody war in which thousands of people have lost their lives. The process broke down for more than two weeks after militants killed 23 kidnapped soldiers, but it later resumed after the Taliban announced a month-long ceasefire.
MAN KILLED IN
A man was killed and two others were injured when a planted bomb exploded outside a house near Sirkai Gate, as area in Peshawar. Police said that the bomb was planted outside the house of Mushtaq who was a milk seller and intimidated by unknown extortionists from the last several days.
The explosives, packed in a shopping bag, went off when a cleaner namely Mukhtar was collecting plastic bags from the streets. The blast caused partial damage to nearby houses and triggered fear and panic in the area. However, a large number of people came out of their houses to participate in rescue activities. They shifted all the injured to Lady Reading Hospital, where two of them were reported to be in serious condition. The man who lost his life in the blast was identified as Mukhtar while the injured Rahmat and Mehwish.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sarki Gate is the city’s main commercial and residential area inhabited by a large number of people of Shia and Sunni sects.
A few days back, a suicide bomber had also targeted a police APC vehicle in Battatal area where nine persons were killed and 32 others injured.
