ISLAMABAD - The Establishment Division forwarded recommendations of the Central Selection Board to Prime Minister Office for his approval regarding promotion of more than 150 civil servants to grade 20 and 21, The Nation learnt on Tuesday.
The Central Selection Board under Chairman Federal Public Service Commission has recently reviewed cases of more than 300 officers for promotions to grade 20 and 21. After detailed analysis around 150 officers of all 13 occupational groups for promotions were recommended.
Sources informed this scribe that the Establishment Division had forwarded four days selection board meeting minutes and recommendations for PM approval.
The sources stated that it was also possible that PM would send back the cases of few officers to the board for re-evaluation. The PM last time had not given approval on the board’s recommendations as he sent back few cases for reconsideration.
The board had recommended promotions cases of 20 officers of grade 19 to grade 20 and 30 officers of grade 20 to grade 21 from Pakistan Police Services groups and 57 officers from Pakistan Administrative group, 37 officers from Secretariat group and four officers from Information group.
A senior officer of Establishment Division told The Nation on condition of anonymity that the Division could not issue notifications of 18 officers who were promoted to grade 22 by the high powered selection board.
He mentioned that 19 seats of deputy secretaries, 20 seats of joint secretaries and 11 seats of additional secretaries are vacant in federal secretariat due to the delay in the PM approval of promotions.
GOVT ADOPTING POLICY OF MERIT: PM
Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that the government was adopting a policy of merit and ensuring transparency in every domain.
He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of Prime Minister Delivery Unit (PMDU) at the PM House on Tuesday.
Talking to the PMDU officials, the Prime Minister said the government was ensuring transparency and merit in every domain, emphasizing that proper functioning of this Unit is of utmost importance for the entire nation.
He directed the PMDU members to work with dedication and honesty in an efficient manner.
PMDU must focus on achieving targets, especially those relating to energy sector, within given timeframe to bring prosperity to the people, he said.
The Prime Minister would personally supervise the working of PMDU to monitor progress on projects of key importance.
Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal; Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Mohammad Asif; Federal Minister for Petroleum, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Tariq Fatemi attended the meeting along with other senior government officials.
