Deportees tell awful tales of torture in Afghan jails

KHYBER AGENCY - The 12 deported Pakistani citizens, deported by the Afghan border officials on the Torkham border the other day, have condemned the maltreatment of Afghan officials during their stay in Afghanistan. They said that they were put in jails without any proof.Talking to media persons after his release from the Landi Kotal lockup on Wednesday, one deportee, Sajid Afghan, 33, resident of Dir, said that in 2007 the Afghan officials had arrested him from Kunar, district of Nangarhar province in suspicion of Pakistan intelligence agent when he was there for business purposes.According to him, they shifted him to different interrogation centres and lastly awarded him ten-year imprison.During jail, he got languish for five years in the Pul-e-Charkhee prison and now last day they freed him, he mentioned.He said that he, along with other Pakistanis, was also physically tortured at the jail,Another deportee, Mohammad Rafiq, said that the Afghan security personnel dropped him down from the truck at one of the check posts when he was in Afghanistan as conductor on a loaded vehicle. On pretext of having his father’s service card in his pocket, they put him behind the bars in Kabul jail for a month, he regretted. Similarly, Mohammad Amin of Mardan, Miannoor from Dir Lower, and Naseer of Gandaw, Mohamand Agency, recounted the same awful tales.Three Pakistani deportees namely Munsef, resident of Gujra Mor, Jahang, Faisalabad, Iftekhar of Lahore and Iqbal from Bach Khan Chowk, Peshawar, lost their minds due to worse torture in Afghanistan jail for the last eight years, Khasadar Force personnel and his comrades said.They were unable to talk properly and signs of tortures could be witnessed on their bodies, a Khasadar personnel on condition of not disclosing his identity said. The relatives of the effectees have their grave concern over the inhuman acts of the Afghan officials with the Pakistan detainees and asked the government to take up the matter with the Afghanistan government.
