ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said on Wednesday that a confrontation with the judiciary had been averted.
“I had gone to the court after consultation with the allies and the judiciary was assured that letter would be written to the Swiss authorities. This step brought an end to a confrontation between the government and the judiciary,” he said this while addressing a cabinet meeting.
The prime minister condemned the release of a sacrilegious movie in the US, saying that the act hurt the Ummah.
“I will talk to the US envoy to record protest over the issue,” he said, adding that taking notice, the the government had blocked the website.
About the flood damage, he said: “We are grieved by the loss of property and life in floods.” However, he expressed his government’s resolve to rehabilitate flood survivors. “An amount of Rs2 billon had been announced for the flood-hit people.”
He expressed sympathy with the bereaved families whose relatives were killed in the twin factory fire tragedy. About his visit to China, he said he held talks with global and economic experts there and Beijing reiterated all-out support to Islamabad.
Earlier, the prime minister expressed his resentment over the latecomers. Sources said the cabinet began proceedings beyond its scheduled time while the minister found a few ministers present to attend the meeting. When the rest of the members of the federal cabinet came, PM Raja asked them to be punctual.
