Tamgha-i-Imtiaz conferred on MUST doctor

Dr Rehana Asghar of Mirpur University of Science and Technology Mirpur has been conferred with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and extraordinary research contribution in the field of botany/ biotechnology.
The government of Pakistan has conferred Tamgha-i-Imtiazup on her on the occasion of 68th Independence Day of Pakistan, says an official statement. Dr Rehana Asghar has been serving as chairperson of the Department of Biotechnology at the MUST. She had served the University of Balochistan, Quetta and Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi before joining the MUST.
In AAU Rawalpindi, she served for 10 years. She did her MSc from the University of Balochistan by securing first position. She received PhD degree from the University of California. She did two post doctorates from the US. She produced 6 PhDs and 16 MPhils besides supervising research projects of several MSc students. She has over 50 research publications to her credit. She has presented her research work in numerous national and international conferences. In recognition of her achievements in academic and research she has also been awarded several other awards including the Third World Academy of Sciences Award in 1998, the outstanding student presentation award in 1st California State University Electron Microscopy Colloquium, USA in 1991, ‘Honour Certificate’ by the Gamma Sigma Delta Honour Society of Agriculture USA in 1991, Quaid-i-Azam Scholarship of the Government of Pakistan in 1986 and the Fellowship for Graduate Studies by the American Association of University Women Organisation in 1991.
MUST faculty members and students felicitated Dr Rehana Asghar for having received the award and hoped that she would continue working for the development of her department and the university.  Her firm commitment and highly professional attitude is an example for her colleagues to follow, the faculty admitted. They paid tributes to her untiring efforts for the establishment of the department and thanked her for bringing laurels to the MUST.
