Rumours about Edhi’s health dispelled

KARACHI - Edhi Foundation on Sunday out rightly rejected rumours pertaining to the serious illness or death of internationally renowned social worker and philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Abdul Sattar Edhi runs one of the biggest charity services of the world that includes ambulance services, hospitals, children services, education services, rehabilitation centres, morgue, Darul Aman and several others. He was inspired from his mother’s death due to paralysis and mental illness and decided to establish a welfare service to provide facilities to others. He had received several national and international awards in honour of his services.
Talking to The Nation, Edhi spokesman Anwer Kazmi said that the news was spread with ulterior motives in order to cause damage to the charity work initiated by Abdul Sattar Edhi.
“Edhi Sahib is doing his routine work in the office and the news of his illness was spread to disrupt the activities of the welfare organisation,” he said.
He, however, said that Abdul Sattar Edhi was on dialysis and goes for routine checkups to SIUT on Tuesday and Saturday. The legendary and one of the most respected personalities of the country had faced kidney issues earlier and doctors declared he would have to go through dialysis for the rest of his life. He requested the public to not to pay heed to such unfounded claims adding that forwarding such claims was unethical.
Earlier, on Sunday, a twitter feed run by famous singer Fakhre Alam tweeted that “The GREAT EDHI sahib is unwell again and admitted in ICU. We pray for the man who made one of the largest charity ambulance services.”
The followers of Abdul Sattar Edhi took the news and spread it along with prays for his early recovery on social media.
It is pertinent to mention here that rumours had spread like wildfire on both traditional and social media for couple of times regarding the serious illness or death of Abdul Sattar Edhi, especially on the occasions when he goes for routine dialysis to SIUT. However, both Abdul Sattar Edhi and SIUT had denied news of his serious illness every time.
