Imran Khan rules out alliance with MQM

ISLAMABAD - Reiterating his stance that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will only accept power if it wins the majority in the Parliament, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has clarified once again that his party will not forge any alliance with the MQM, as any party that does ‘politics of the gun’, is not acceptable.
‘The real issue is not having a battle with the MQM, but fighting the status quo’, Imran said while addressing a group of journalists visiting from Sindh.
Strongly condemning the US Congressional resolution on Balochistan, he termed it as another attack on country’s sovereignty stating that the government was responsible for all that is happening regarding Balochistan.
He said there was no military solution to the problem of Balochistan.
He welcomed the visiting journalists and said his travels through Sindh made him realise that interior Sindh was as backward as Balochistan with feudal and sardars holding sway.
‘We need to bring rule of law, end corruption, revive merit and enforce tax collection. To make this happen our fight is with those in power at the Centre. Our enemy today are the two main parties’,he added.
He said so far no leader had really done anything for the poor people of these regions and that truly representative democracy had not yet come to Pakistan where decentralisation at the basic village level was still absent.
Imran said the feudal system had to be broken by bringing effective local government where local people control their own lives. He criticised the patwari system and qabza groups that hold power over the poor people.
He pointed out that potential overseas investment was not forthcoming because of these corrupt system.
He said that the overseas Pakistanis were the greatest assets of Pakistan but there was no justice in this country right now for the people.
He stressed that today was a golden opportunity to change the system since Zardari has bought off all the traditional political forces.
‘The change now will be even bigger than the change Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto brought about in the 70’s. Support for PTI and change is being followed by all classes - from the poor to the elite - because for the first time everbody fears for country’s survival’, he said. He informed the group that PTI is going to travel across Sindh to convince the Sindhis that they also need to support the wave of change.
