Thousands of workers of brick kilns and power looms here took out a protest rally against payment of lower wages than fixed by the government.
Led by Labour Qaumi Movement president Tanveer and Baba Abdul Latif, the rally started from Jhang city and marching from Adhiwal Chowk, Sargodha road and Ayub Chowk reached in front of DCO Office where they staged a sit-in.
Addressing the participants, the president of Labour Qaumi Movement said that the Punjab government has fixed Rs963 daily wages of a brick kiln worker while the owners are paying very low wages to the workers. He demanded that the DCO should force the kiln owners to pay fixed daily wages to the workers.
On the other hand, the owners of power looms force the workers for oil cleanliness without additional charges. Baba Abdul Latif, the vice president of Labour Qaumi Movement, urged the power looms owners to appoint new workers for oil cleanliness. He also warned to district administration that if social security benefits were not given to the workers, all the workers of district Jhang would stage a sit-in in front of DCO Office till the acceptance of their demands. A large number of kiln workers, power looms workers, women and children of workers attended the rally. The participants raised slogans against the government and the district administration.
