PM sees no change in KP under PTI

MINGORA - In a seething attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday pledged to bring a ‘real’ change to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), a province where PTI is in the government.

“Some people keep saying they will come out on roads. Well, I am building roads on which you can protest,” the premier said while addressing a public gathering in Mingora as part of his public-outreach campaign in wake of Panama leaks.

“This is a matter of everyone’s own fate. Some build roads others take it to them.”

Taking a swipe at the PTI-led government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the prime minister said there was no sign of “naya Pakistan” anywhere in the province.

Addressing a massive gathering in Mingora, where he inaugurated a Punjab-funded kidney hospital, Prime Minister Sharif said that the dream of change people were seeing has not come true. “Mingora has the same broken and wrecked roads and schools. No change has come in Mingora,” he added.

The prime minister also announced a number of development projects, including the establishment of a women university campus and restoration of Saidu Sharif airport. He pledged that his party would bring about a real change, which can be seen in Punjab and Balochistan “I am building roads so that you keep coming to our jalsas,” he said. The prime minister said that the recent by-election held in Peshawar was won by the PML-N while the ruling party stood fourth.

He said the PML-N would emerge as victorious in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the next general elections on the basis of its good governance.

The Prime Minister said there were people who wanted to come to the roads, but asked "where are the roads? I failed to find any good road here" he said as the crowd raised slogans. He pointed that while his government was busy building roads, his political opponents had nothing else to do but to march on these new roads.

Prime Minister announced a sub-campus for women, a grid station for Tehsil Matta and Kabal at a cost of Rs 300 million, a technical training institute for the youth. He assured that the gas network would extend to the area and loadshedding would end by 2018.

He also announced installation of astro-turf in the stadium, while the Saidu Sharif Airport would be made into an international airport. He said the flights would operate to Dubai, Jeddah and Madina.

He said the road network would be connected to China Pakistan Economic Corridor so as to bring a real economic revolution in their lives. "In prosperity of Swat, Nawaz Sharif gets happy ... I love Swat and want to see development and progress here," he said.

Prime Minister announced grants of Rs 200 million each for Zila Council of Swat and Shangla. He promised to visit the area before the election, as the crowd cheered. He also announced a sub- Campus for Shangla.

He was critical of the political opponents of the government and said the biggest asset of the Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz was its leader Nawaz Sharif.

He called for accountability of the PTI leader Imran Khan and said he himself was mired in Panama scandal and should do some soul searching before making baseless allegations. He asked Imran Khan to tell the people of the fate of the Accountability Bureau of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
