National media urged to counter cultural attacks

OUR STAFF REPORTER BAHAWALPUR - There is no doubt that media has played a vital role in progress and development of countries the world over. Through media, which has turned the world into a global village, access to everything to a greater extent is possible. It has minimised distances and has brought people closer to each other. But no-one has ever thought about its side-affects that are apparent from the harm it done to the Muslim countries and their cultures. Western media has badly affected our values and norms and it can be said easily that media progress is a big conspiracy to defeat the Muslims. We have willingly adopted Western and Indian lifestyles and have made our lives so miserable that survival in a respectable way has become hard under the prevailing conditions. These views were expressed by contestants at an English declamation contest held at the Pioneer High School in Satellite Town on Sunday. The students expressed their views and sentiments remarkably and gave valuable remarks in favour of their views and topic. The declamation contest titled Has Progress of Media caused Destruction to the Nation, was won by Rabael Zahra of Class-V. In her speech, she said that development of media had badly ruined our society and made us morally weak as the people of our country were highly impressed by Indian channels and Western media and had forgotten our religious and national bindings which had ultimately disturbed our family and social life too as well as attitudes and relationships which were the essence of any society. Our media has failed to counter foreign attacks on our society which were a part of the plot to ruin our ideology. She urged the national media to understand its responsibilities and avoid from spreading frustration in the society. Some students were of the view that medias progress had given new dimensions in every field and had remarkably improved the growing chances. Eighteen students, Rabael Zahra, Memoona Arooj, Saleha Maryyam, Aqsa Riaz, Narmeen Shoukat, Mishal Maqbool, Marryam Nadeem, Fatima Abid, Fiza Ahmed, Shawal Tahir, Tashbih-ul-Hassan, Muhammad Ali, Abdullah Abid, Abdullah Zahid, Behzad Khadim, Asim Farooq, Hafiz Abdullah and Awais Rafi, participated in the competition. Teachers of Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur - Sabeen and Tehmina of Dominican Convent - were the adjudicators.
