LHC dismisses bail plea of social media blackmailer of female doctors

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday dismissed bail petition of a man arrested on charges of blackmailing female doctors through Fcebook, WhatsApp and other social networking accounts.

A division bench headed by Justice Abdul Sami Khan dismissed the bail petition filed by Abdul Wahab Alvi.

During the hearing, the counsel of the accused contended that the case against his client was a result of media campaign and based only on rumors. He stated the prosecution could not provide any solid evidence of his client’s involvement in any such case.

Dr. Salman Kazmi, leader of Young Doctors Association, was present there in the court who said that the accused used to blackmail female doctors through their social networking websites’ accounts. He said many of the victims of the suspect had to quit the medical profession and some faced refusal of marriage proposals.

A deputy prosecutor told the court that data recovered from the suspect’s mobile phone proved that he used to blackmail female doctors. After hearing both sides, the court dismissed the bail.
