PM urges UN to probe human rights abuse in Indian-held Kashmir

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, said on Wednesday that Pakistan wants peace with India.

"Peace cannot be established in South Asia without resolving the Kashmir issue," said the prime minister.

The prime minister reiterated Pakistan's stance of resolving the issue of Kashmir through dialogue with India.

"A new generation of Kashmiris has started a freedom struggle against India."

The premier shed light on the atrocities committed by Indian occupation forces in India-held Kashmir (IHK) and urged the international community to act.

Nawaz also said that the current wave of unrest in IHK is the result of the heavy-handed and brutal tactics used by Indian forces, and Pakistan supports the rights of self-determination for the people of Kashmir.

The prime minister said Pakistan will share a dossier containing evidence on human rights violations in the Himalayan region by the Indian occupation forces with the United Nations.

Nawaz urged the world body to take measures in order to demilitarise Indian-held Kashmir, saying violence in Kashmir will only escalate tensions between Pakistan and India.
